What's The Story Behind Apple's Logo?

The Apple Logo: A Bite-Sized History
Apple's iconic logo is known worldwide. But its journey began with a very different design. The first Apple logo, created in 1976, didn't feature the fruit itself. Instead, it depicted scientist Isaac Newton sitting under a tree, with an apple about to fall on his head. This image referenced the story of gravity's discovery. However, Steve Jobs, known for his design sense, thought it looked old-fashioned and hard to use for small prints. Enter Rob Janoff, the designer who created the logo we know today.
Janoff presented Jobs with several logo options, all featuring apples. Some were quite complex, with rainbow colors and leaves. Jobs preferred a simpler design. Janoff took a bite out of an apple in one of his sketches, just to see how it would look. The bite served two purposes. First, it helped distinguish the apple from a cherry in small sizes. Second, it added a touch of playfulness to the logo. Jobs instantly loved it. The rainbow colors were soon gone, replaced by a clean, single-color silhouette.
The logo's color has changed over the years, going from rainbow to black and eventually to the sleek chrome look we see today. But the core design - a simple, bitten apple - has remained. It's become a symbol of innovation, just like the company it represents. The bite can also be seen as a metaphor for taking a chance and thinking differently, which is exactly what Apple has always done.
